FarLabs – Freely Accessible Remote Laboratories

A Virtual Laboratory Network

The FARLabs initiative is a direct reponse to the problem of teacher demonstratoins being just that – demonstrations. Students don’t actually get to engage.

Taking part in an experiment (which is the premise on which TELG’s projects are completely based) is essential for engagement and learning. It makes science come alive.

However, it isn’t always possible for every student to do this in every school (not everyone is lucky enough to have an Engineering Link Project in their local area, for example). Therefore, the next best thing is FARLabs.

Interested – visit their site and get more information. See what’s available! And best yet – it’s FREE!

FARLabs provides high school teachers and students with online access to scientific equipment for use in pre-prepared, curriculum-relevant, practical experiments. The platform consists of three main components: 1) the equipment, 2) the website portal and 3) the teaching materials.

Currently there are 5 experiments (Nuclear Physics, the Environment and Structures), with plans for more.

FARLabs is led by the Department of Physics and La Trobe University in collaboration with James Cook University, Curtin University, Quantum Victoria, the Australian Synchrotron and V3 Alliance.

You can contact FARLabs at latrobefarlabs@gmail.com or visit their website – https://www.farlabs.edu.au

Did I mention it was free.
