First and Second places break Spaghetti Bridge Record!

The 2015 Spaghetti Bridge Competition attracted a record 82 team entries, with over 400 students participating from 17 schools (from Brisbane, Toowoomba and Ipswich), and we are very pleased to announce the winner!

With a massive 194.7kg supported by a 300 gram bridge, the winning team was “The Sleigher” from St Edmund’s College.  The bridge was built by Year 10 student, Rudolph Liebenberg.  Also smashing last year’s record was the second placed team, “The Promethium Project” from Brisbane Boys College.  They managed to support 131 kg with a bridge weighing only 298 grams.  Third place was taken by AMSB Team 2 from Corinda State High School.  Their 295 gram bridge supported 41.5 kg.

This year we had a new category, with the Rookie Prize for the best “first time” school.  With 6 new schools this year, the competition was very close, with Iona College’s “Iona Leaders 1” team taking the prize, with 12.7 kg supported by a 278 gram bridge.

Congratulations to all of the schools that participated and to their patient teachers, supporters and families.

Thank you to our sponsors for this year’s event – Lloyd’s Register Foundation, Engineers Australia (Queensland Division) and TAFE Queensland Brisbane.

We have big plans for next year’s event, and we are aiming for over 150 teams from across Queensland!  The competition will be in more regions, during a larger window in the year, making it easier for schools to participate.

Congratulations again to Rudolph from St Edmund’s College once again.
