Engineers Shape the World!

Australian Engineering Week (AEW) is the national week to celebrate the profession of engineering. It is an opportunity to connect with the community and inspire the next generation of engineers. Engineers put the ‘E’ in STEM.

During AEW 2015, Engineers Australia will partner with the University of Queensland to deliver the workshop series Engineers Shape the World!

These free workshops are designed specifically for high school students to learn about Engineering, an exciting and varied profession that shapes the world. Engineers facilitate sustainable development, advancements in vital infrastructure and deliver exciting new technology to our lives.

The workshops will be facilitated by current UQ Engineering students who will also share their experiences of their engineering studies and tips for making the transition between high school and university.

Workshop 1: Introduction to Robotics

This workshop introduces students to the exciting world of robotics by building and programming robots. The workshop aims to improve the analytical and problem solving skills of students.

Dates available for this workshop:
Session 1: Monday 3rd August, 9:00am – 10:00am
OR
Session 2: Wednesday 5th August, 9:00am – 10:00am
The workshop is the same on both days

Workshop 2: Engineers Without Borders – Sanitation and Water

Sanitation and water are two of the biggest issues facing less developed countries today. One billion people worldwide lack access to clean water while two billion lack access to sanitation. Students in this workshop will get a hands-on introduction to the life-saving process of water filtration and learn about how Civil and Environmental Engineering contribute to a more sustainable environment.

Dates available for this workshop:
Session 1: Monday 3rd August, 10:00am – 11:00am
OR
Session 2: Wednesday 5th August, 10:00am – 11:00am
The workshop is the same on both days

Workshop 3: Powering Cities

Power Engineers plan, design, construct, operate and maintain power systems and equipment. Students will work as teams of power engineers to design model power transmission systems that will supply power to a small town within financial, environmental and time constraints.

Dates available for this workshop:
Session 1: Monday 3rd August, 11:00am – 1.00pm
OR
Session 2: Wednesday 5th August, 11:00am – 1:00pm
The workshop is the same on both days

All activities will be held at UQ Campus, St Lucia on Monday 3rd August and Wednesday 5th August.

Numbers for each workshop are strictly limited to 30 students. If you wish to register or for further information, please contact Sara James on 07 3226 3001 or qldevents@engineersaustralia.org.au.
