CQ LEaST WShop 3 Rockhampton
05/05/2016
8:30 am - 3:30 pm
This will be the third workshop in Rockhampton, and is proudly hosted by CQ University.
A Linking Engineers and Scientists with Teachers (LEaST) professional development workshop has 3 x 1.5 hour sessions for STEM teachers. The focus is in the areas of Physics, Engineering Technology, Mathematics and Science, with the opportunity to include Chemistry if possible. The afternoon will be spent visiting a local engineering site, where teachers and engineers can engage in professional conversations about how they can use what they’ve observed and learned in the classroom.
The three 1.5 hour workshops will be led by scientists and engineers, experts in their fields, demonstrating how their disciplines use the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics taught every day in your school is actually used in the real world. Teachers will also gain ideas and resources to assist embedding these concepts into their classrooms.

About LEaST Workshops:
Linking Engineers and Scientists with Teachers (LEaST) events are unique. Teachers leave the workshop with a number of positive outcomes:
- having worked with professional engineers and scientists, exploring problems and tasks that relate directly to their curriculum, teachers find confidence in their ability to relate what they are teaching to the real world.
- meeting and talking with professional engineers and scientists, which provides valuable links and contacts.
- hearing from universities first-hand what the expectations are for their students when they start their tertiary career.
- fully informed of the latest advances in their subject area.
- receive resources and ideas that can be used in your classroom tomorrow.
- network with colleagues they may not normally come in contact with, providing valuable links and resources.
A LEaST workshop is designed to showcase the engineers from the local area and provide opportunities for teachers from right across the STEM spectrum to form lasting connections.
Teachers who specialise in Junior Science and Mathematics will also gain valuable insights and resources.
