05/06/2018
8:45 am - 3:00 pm
The Engineering Link Group’s award-winning Linking Engineers and Scientists with Teachers (LEaST) Bathurst event will again be proudly hosted by Charles Sturt University’s Engineering Faculty. Attending teachers will work with professional engineers, other experienced teachers and CSU Engineering and Science staff.
TELG Professional Development workshops for teachers are NESA approved for proficient teachers.
Objectives:
The objectives of this LEaST Professional Development Workshop include:
- Demonstrating context-based teaching and learning to secondary science, engineering studies and mathematics (STEM) teachers.
- Detailing opportunities and programs CSU has available for you and your students to access.
- Offering a range of real experiences in the engineering world, from which to draw contexts for teaching (including accessing engineers from the Royal Australian Navy).
- Providing potential contacts of local engineers and scientists, who could provide further contextual experiences and advice in the future.
- Extrapolating these experiences and models into the classroom.
Teachers learn about the roles of engineers and scientists in society and how their problem-solving approaches can be applied to teaching in context. We also supply resource materials for current or developing contexts in Physics, Chemistry, Technology and Applied Studies and Mathematics, gathered from workshops held across Australia. The program gives teachers direct experience with science and engineering so that they can motivate and engage their students in mathematics and science-based study.
The program will be made available by the end of May.
