Proudly hosted by James Cook University, this is our tenth year in Cairns.
We are very grateful to James Cook University, the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Engineers Australia for their continuing support.
Year 10, 11 and 12 students will participate in a one-day workshop, experiencing different engineering disciplines. Each workshop is designed to challenge your creativity, your knowledge of the maths and science you are learning at school, and introduce you to the engineering paradigm.
A professional engineer will outline their career and what a day in the life of an engineer is, then present you with a problem or scenario that you will have to solve in teams. You will test materials, complete design calculations, and submit a proposal. If approved, you will construction your solution. The engineer will evaluate each solution against the criteria and declare the winning team.
During the day, students will also experience JCU Engineering, working in labs and getting a feel for university life. This is worth the price of admission on its own.
From outside Cairns?
We are able to provide supervised accommodation for students who are travelling from outside Cairns for the night before the event. Accommodation options are detailed below.
