After three years of COVID, we are very proud to be bringing the Engineering Link Project back to La Trobe University. This year’s event will be held at the Bundoora campus, and we are very excited to be back.
An Engineering Link Project is a one-day event for Year 10, 11 and 12 students who are interested in finding out what engineering REALLY is!
Everyone will participate in two half-day workshops in two different engineering disciplines. Each workshop is designed to challenge your creativity, and your knowledge of the maths and science you are learning at school, and introduce you to the engineering paradigm.
A professional engineer will outline their career and what a day in the life of an engineer is, then present you with a problem or scenario that you will have to solve in teams. You will test materials, complete design calculations and submit a proposal. If approved, you will construct your solution. The engineer will evaluate each solution against the criteria and declare the winning team.
Students can choose from up to 4 different disciplines over the two sessions, providing a unique and valuable insight into this exciting career.
During the day, students will also experience La Trobe University Engineering, working in labs and getting a feel for university life. This is worth the price of admission on its own.
Over lunch, students will have the opportunity to chat informally with visiting professional engineers (in a session we call “Speed Talks”). This is a fantastic opportunity to get to know an engineer or two at a personal level and find out about the profession from the people actually in it.
La Trobe University staff will also provide detailed information about studying engineering (in general) and at La Trobe University in particular.

Description:
La Trobe University is an Australian multi-campus public research university whose flagship campus, the largest metropolitan campus in the country, is located in Bundoora, Victoria. The university was established in 1964 following the assent of the La Trobe University Act by Victorian Parliament on 9 December of that year, becoming the third university in the state and the twelfth university in Australia. While it does not share the architectural aesthetics of its sandstone peers, at its core La Trobe, as much as Monash, was “among the last of the old universities in Australia”. Of the many aspirations for La Trobe by its founders, one of its most prominent achievements, and a great source of university pride, has been its long-standing commitment to providing access to higher education to those traditionally excluded from the sector. In 2015 it was ranked in the top 100 universities under 50 in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Additionally, the 2015–16 THE performance indicators placed La Trobe as 12th in Australia for teaching, 11th for research, and 13th for industry income.
