Proudly hosted by James Cook University, this is our twenty-fifth year in Townsville.
An Engineering Link Project is a two-day event for Year 10, 11 and 12 students who are interested in finding out what engineering REALLY is!
Everyone will participate in two full-day workshops in different engineering disciplines. Each workshop is designed to challenge your creativity, your knowledge of the maths and science you are learning at school, and introduce you to the engineering paradigm.
A professional engineer will outline their career and what a day in the life of an engineer is, then present you with a problem or scenario that you will have to solve in teams. You will test materials, complete design calculations and submit a proposal. If approved, you will construction your solution. The engineer will evaluate each solution against the criteria and declare the winning team.
Students can choose from up to 6 different disciplines over the two days, providing a unique and valuable insight into this exciting career.
During the two days, students will also experience JCU Engineering, working in labs and getting a feel for university life. This is worth the price of admission on its own.

Supervised single-room accommodation is provided in the student college at JCU (Combined Catholic College – St Pauls). Students will be escorted to and from the university each day, and fully supervised by qualified teachers in the evening. An extra nights’ accommodation (before the event) is also available (at an extra cost). The price includes all meals. Accommodation is subsidised by Engineers Australia.
