NQ STEM Teacher Workshop – JCU Townsville
Following on from the very successful LEaST workshops in North Queensland in 2014, TELG and James Cook University College of Science, Technology and Engineering is proud to present a two day STEM Professional Development Experience in Townsville from April 27 to 28.
With the support of the entire College, a diverse and inventive program of hands-on workshops for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics teachers has been created – all we need now is YOU!
The two-day experience will be divided into two x 2.5 hour workshops per day. There will be a total of 8 workshops across the two days to choose from. Teachers can register for a single workshop or the entire two days, or any combination that suits.
Early bird expressions of interest are now being taken. By signing up early (before March 30), you have two significant advantages:
First choice when registering for individual workshops.
Significant discounts on registration costs.
There is no obligation for you to register for the workshops once the program is finalised, so we encourage you to sign up – what have you got to lose?
Workshops are being planned around the following topics:
- Practical Applications of Physics and Mathematics in Civil Engineering
- Practical Applications of Physics and Mathematics in Mechanical Engineering
- Practical Applications of Physics and Mathematics in Power and Electrical Engineering
- Chemistry in the 21st Century
- Answering the “why” in your Maths class!
- Mathematics in Science (suitable for both Junior and Senior Mathematics)
- Robotics using Arduinos and Lego Mindstorms
Scientists and Engineers from JCU and the local community will facilitate each workshop and experienced teachers will provide frameworks for the activities and resources to allow you to quickly and easily see how they can be embedded into your teaching.
You will also find out first-hand what opportunities JCU can provide you and your students to support your teaching and learning.

TELG understands the difficulties of distance and the cost of TRS (both financial and time lost) but we hope that your Principals will see the value in your attendance of professional development that will allow you to provide your students real meaning to why they are studying Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry and IT. We are very confident that the small cost of your attendance will reap massive rewards to both yourself and your students.
