Queensland Competition

2024

We are pleased to provide different locations for teams to come together and test their designs on our specially designed testing rigs.  Can anyone beat the record of 86.6 kg (2022)?

The main testing day will be in Brisbane City (QUT Gardens Point) and the testing will be live-streamed where possible and recorded where it can’t. We also provide alternative testing options – teams can courier their bridge to us and we’ll record the test for you. You can then watch the recording at any time.

  • Monday 12th August 2024 Brisbane City (QUT “The Cube”)
  • Tuesday 13th August 2024 – St Eugene College, Burpengary (North Brisbane)
  • Friday 23rd August 2024 – James Cook University, Townsville
  • Monday 26th August 2024 – Heights College, Rockhampton
  • Saturday 31st August 2024 – James Cook University, Cairns

Prizes:

In 2024, a total prize pool of $2000 (thanks to the Queensland Government) will be shared across up to 7 teams.  All prizes are presented to the team’s school for distribution as it sees fit, but we encourage the schools to pass on the prize money to the winning team.

  • First Place – Largest Peak Load (across all testing locations) – $700
  • Second Place (across all testing locations) – $400
  • Third Place (across all testing locations) – $300
  • Local Testing Location Winner – up to $100 per location.
Note: Teams are only eligible for one prize.

Expression of interest to participate is now open!

Schools who express interest will be sent 1 load hook (if requested).

Once you have organised your teams, please complete your team registration (form available in the “Competition Resources Folder” link below) and return it to TELG as soon as possible. We will then send you additional hooks (2 additional for free). If you would like more than 3 in total, please indicate when registering and we’ll invoice you for the additional hooks ($10 per hook + extra postage).

Free Teacher Webinar

TELG, the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Engineers Australia held a free webinar about the Competition on Wednesday 24th April 2024.

TMR engineers and TELG staff explored the physics and engineering of bridges, as well as provided hints and tips on the competition itself, and a question and answer session was held at the end. A recording is available below.
