South Queensland – Spaghetti Bridge Competition Open
Registrations for the 2015 Spaghetti Bridge Competition are open.
Free Professional Development for Teachers – June 18
We are pleased to announce that the Spaghetti Bridge competition is open for registrations. Our website has all of the details – http://www.telg.com.au/spagbridgecomp/
In 2014, over 70 teams from nearly 20 schools participated and we are planning that this year’s event is even bigger. There is nearly $4000 in prizes, including a “Rookie Award” for the top-placing team from a school that has not participated in the Competition previously.
We are offering teachers the opportunity to participate in a free professional development workshop, hosted by TAFE Queensland, on Thursday 18 June, from 4.30 pm to 7 pm. There will be an engineer from 6CER present the science and mathematics behind bridges and bridge design. We will also discuss ideas for organising teams for the competition itself. Registrations for this event are now open – http://www.telg.com.au/register.
The workshop is open to all teachers, even if you aren’t really planning on entering any teams in this year’s competition.
All teams will have their bridges tested at TAFE Queensland (South Brisbane) on Thursday 6th August or Friday 7th August – in Engineering Week. It is expected that at least one member from each team will accompany their bridge for testing. We are planning a number of displays and presentations to enhance the experience for teams and their teachers on the day. Being in the heart of South Bank, there are plenty of other attractions to make your trip worthwhile.
All the information you need to get started can be found on the competition website, but if you have any questions at all, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
We look forward to having your school participate in this educational, collaborative and exciting event.
